Don’t come in like a Kettlebell!
The phrase, new year, new you is tossed around a lot this time of year, and rightly so! The beginning of a new year is when the gym is typically flooded with individuals who have made their health a priority in the new year. Gyms oftentimes have a bad rap of being a very intimidating place and we never want you to feel that way! If you are new to a gym, there are a few guidelines to understand before you join that will have you feeling confident the moment you step foot in Twisted Iron Fitness’ gym door.
Understand and Read Gym Rule’s
There might be an area of the gym that is specific to personal training and an area that is only for competition training. Reading the rules of the gym will help you understand the areas you should and shouldn’t be in and not get embarrassed if you walk into the wrong area. If you are unsure, ask one of our staff members to help you!
If You Use Equipment, Put it Back
Most people’s biggest pet peeve is dumbbells or plates laying on the floor, barbells loaded with extremely heavy weights, and so on. If you use weights, load up a bar, or use a mat, make sure to put it away when you are finished. If you don’t remember where something goes, then ask one of our staff members. Keeping the gym tidy for the next person will leave everyone happy and keep the frustrations at the door.
Don’t Drop Weights
There is nothing worse than hearing a loud bang when someone drops a bar after lifting really heavy. You should not be dropping your weights or letting them slam on the floor. It can cause damage to the weights and can be very dangerous and may even hit someone. It’s not impressive when you do this and is very distracting.
Get Off Your Phone
Unless if you are changing a song on your playlist, timing your workout, or using a helpful fitness app, there is no need to be using your cell phone during your workout. If a call or text comes through, stop your workout, step aside, and answer it so you are out of the way. People may be waiting for you to finish the equipment you’re using so taking longer because of your phone is not appropriate.
Going to the gym for the first time is intimidating but with these few rules, you can walk in with confidence and understand gym etiquette so you won’t upset anyone. Twisted Iron Fitness promises to provide you with the tools and motivation you need to change your life! It’s never too late to start a fitness regimen, so what are you waiting for?!
