What to do when you have Abs-olutly no Motivation…
Many people just starting out on their fitness journey find it hard to get into the swing of things and make exercise and healthy eating part of their normal routine. If you’re one of those people who just can’t find the motivation to make the trip to the gym or don’t feel like meal planning for the week, here are a few tips on how to stay motivated on your fitness journey.
Find a Real Reward
Some people are fine with goals that are general, such as “lose weight” or “eat healthier.” However, others need a little more motivation, and that can come in the form of a tangible reward. For example, after meal prepping for the week, reward yourself with an episode of a show you’ve been meaning to catch up on. Or, after visiting the gym, grab a smoothie as a snack.
Make a Commitment
Signing a physical contract in front of friends is one way to hold yourself accountable when it comes to your fitness goals. If you want to go the extra mile, add into your contract a type of penalty if you don’t go to the gym or eat an extra cheat meal. This way you know there’s a consequence to your actions that are more real than just feeling guilty.
Rethink Positive Thinking
If you’re finding staying positive challenging along your fitness journey, try thinking about it in terms of the benefits you’ll be getting out of it. Think about how good you’ll feel after your workout, or how nice it’ll be to have that favorite meal on your off-day.
Find Like-Minded People
Everything’s easier when you have a solid group of people behind you that will back you up no matter what you’re going through. These people can be a source of motivation, or they can be the ones that hold you accountable to complete your workouts or eating right. Either way, they’ll be a great source of motivation and positive energy throughout your fitness journey.
Find What You Like
No one said that you HAVE to go running, or you HAVE to take a Zumba class. Try out some different types of workouts and figure out what you like best and what you actually enjoy doing. Going on a simple bike ride or hike are sometimes just exactly what you need to keep you motivated.
