Finding the right workout that fits your lifestyle and fitness goals can be challenging. How long does it need to be? How many days a week do I need to work out? Do I have to go to a gym or can I do it at home? With so many questions, it’s hard to see what’s at the center of it all: you. You’re the one that needs to decide what’s best for your body, and what works with your lifestyle. You’re in control of what your personalized workout looks like.
Consistency is Key
No matter what your fitness goals are, you need to remember to say consistent. Pick five days each week to be active, and block out the time to do so in your calendar. The other two days that are left over will be rest days. Remember to stick to your schedule and only switch around rest days if you need to. Stick to your plan and remember that consistency is key when it comes to achieving your fitness goals.
Active recovery days are days that help you recover from more intense workouts. On these days you should still get some activity in, it just doesn’t need to be as intense as your other workouts. Some of these activities could be swimming, yoga, or just taking a long walk. Whatever you can do to get your body moving and recovering.
Add in Variety
Doing the same type of workout, again and again, is a good way to burn yourself out mentally and increases the risk of physical injury. Remember to add in variety. Do cardio one day, weight training another, or incorporate different types of HIIT into your workout. You could also add in your favorite fitness class that your gym offers, or try a different style workout you’ve been wanting to try to mix things up.
Now that you’ve got your plan locked in, always challenge yourself. Pushing yourself should happen gradually, not right away in the beginning. Increase weights, the number of miles you run or push yourself to beat your personal best time on your next run.
